If getting a compensatory pick in 2020 requires the Steelers releasing Moncrief James Conner Jersey , what should the Steelers do?" />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteBehind the Steel Curtaina Pittsburgh Steelers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsSteelersOddsShopAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Latest NewsSteelers Film Room2018 NFL Draft AnalysisLatest NewsFiled under:Latest NewsFeatures and Long FormWhy the Steelers might have to choose between Donte Moncrief or a 2020 3rd Round PickNew,51commentsIf getting a compensatory pick in 2020 requires the Steelers releasing Moncrief, what should the Steelers do?EDTShareTweetShareShareWhy the Steelers might have to choose between Donte Moncrief or a 2020 3rd Round PickPhoto by Scott Halleran/Getty ImagesWhich would you rather have: WR Donte Moncrief in 2019, or a 2020 3rd round compensatory draft pick?It seems crazy to be asking such a question, but there is at least a possibility the Steelers could be faced with this dilemma. I wouldn’t say it’s a probability, but there is a scenario where the Steelers could be out a compensatory pick all together for 2020. How is this the case? We’ll start with a super-quick recap of the compensatory process and where the Steelers currently stand. Each team either gains or loses Compensatory Free Agents (CFA‘s) during the off-season. In order to receive any compensatory picks, a team must lose more players than gained. After the second Tuesday following the NFL draft, the period for free agents gained or lost affecting the compensatory formula is over. The biggest factor left is a player’s value being adjusted due to playing time (or lack thereof) and postseason awards. I have already published article about these factors a few weeks ago which can be viewed here. But there is one other factor we have yet to cover: players being released.I also want to add that the compensatory process is so involved it seems like every time I research the subject I learn something new. According to an article on overthecap.com earlier this month, players who are cut by team prior to Week 10 of the NFL season will no longer affect both the previous team’s or current team’s compensatory formula. So while the Steelers are still in line for the eighth of the ten third-round compensatory picks projected for 2020, if one of the players who they lost this past off-season is released prior to Week 10 they would no longer have a net loss and would not have any compensatory consideration.Ouch.So is this a possibility and what can the Steelers do to prevent it? Here is the scenario and how the Steelers could go from a third round pick to nothing, and it is completely out of their hands. Across the state https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , the Philadelphia Eagles have a very interesting situation when it comes to compensatory picks. They already hold the top compensatory pick for 2020 due to the loss of Nick Foles, and they also have a fourth round pick lined up for losing Golden Tate. Currently their fourth round pick for Jordan Hicks and their seventh round pick for Jordan Matthews are canceled by seventh round pick-ups L.J. Fort and Andrew Sendejo. Due to the nature of the compensatory formula where players cancel out even if they are not in equal rounds, the Eagles could gain an additional fourth round compensatory pick by simply cutting either Fort or Sendejo. Would it be to their benefit to cut either player? Sendejo has a one-year contract for $1.3 million with $500k guaranteed. So releasing him would only carry the $500k in dead money. Fort signed a 3 year deal for about $5.5M. If he were to be released after June 1, the Eagles would only be saving about $90k in 2019 but would have two more years of almost $300k a season in dead money. So if the Eagles wanted to pick up an additional fourth round pick, cutting Sendejo makes a lot more sense from a numbers perspective. But if Fort gets banged up in the preseason and isn’t available while Sendejo plays well, it still isn’t out of the realm of possibility for Fort to be on the chopping block. Just to be thorough, if Jesse James were to be released by Detroit it would cause the same problem. But James’ cap hit of less than $2.3M in 2019 would more than double if he were to be cut, plus he would carry dead money through 2023. Add in the fact releasing James would not add any picks to the Lions since they currently have six CFA’s gained with none lost, it’s pretty certain he’s not going anywhere. So if L.J. Fort would be released by the Eagles, is there anything the Steelers can do to save their third round compensatory pick? There is, but it’s not a very desirable option. Just to clarify Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , it is my understanding Fort signing back with the Steelers (or with any other team) would not affect the compensatory formula at all if he would be released. The only other option remaining for the Steelers would be to release one of the two CFA’s they signed this past off-season.If this were the route they would choose to go, the Steelers would be faced with either releasing Steven Nelson or Donte Moncrief. Nelson would carry $2.5M in dead money over each of the next three years while Moncrief would have $1.75M the next two seasons. Both players would save the Steelers $1.5M towards the 2019 salary cap. Purely from a numbers standpoint, it would make much more sense to release Donte Moncrief. So what should the Steelers do if this scenario plays out? Is having Moncrief on the roster for 2019 more important than the 2020 third round pick they could receive?I think my answer is how most people will choose to respond: let’s wait and see. If Moncrief is living up to his potential when he had a serviceable quarterback throwing him the ball, he could be a fantastic pick up for the Steelers. On the flip side, the Steelers could be faced with another scenario where a decent player just didn’t fit quite right. Depending on training camp and the preseason, Moncrief’s value could range from being the player who takes the pressure off of JuJu Smith–Schuster to fighting to be active each week much like Justin Hunter last season before he was injured. If I were to guess right now, I would be the eternal optimist and say Moncrief is worth more than a third round pick for the Steelers. But rather than worry about this, I’m just praying L.J. Fort comes through for the Eagles so none of this even matters. Fangio’s system is becoming second nature for Broncos defense, Chubb saysAs the hiring of Vic Fangio started to sink in, one question started to rise above the rest. “How will (insert player’s name here) benefit from playing for Fangio?” One of the first Denver Broncos thrown out was Bradley Chubb. After the rookie season the edge had, it was fun to hypothesize what Chubb could do in Fangio’s defense. As the first week of organized team activities concluded, the players have a better idea of where they are in terms of the new coaches and systems. On Friday’s 1st & 10 @ 10 on Orange and Blue 760, Broncos legend Steve Atwater asked Chubb how the process is going for the team. “Everything’s been good, to be honest with you,” Chubb said. “Having the new defense and learning a whole new scheme, we had Phase I and Phase II to really lock it in, now Phase III already feels like second nature. Guys getting comfortable with the scheme, guys getting comfortable with each other all over again. We just feel like we’re getting better each and every day.” They also asked Chubb about Brandon Marshall’s comments about the defense not being on the same page. “I was kind of confused on my own (since) I was still the rookie,” Chubb joked. “I was trying to make sure I didn’t mess up Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , so that’s where a lot of my confusion came from. But at the end of the day, it was just one of those things that we weren’t always on the same page. I don’t blame that on the coaches or the calls, we just have to lock in better. And I feel like if we do that this year, everything will be good.”Hearing how well Chubb and the rest of the defense is taking the new coaches and system only adds to the excitement over what he and the Broncos could do this season. Bonus listen Our Joe Rowles joined the guys to chat about Denver’s defensive scheme last season and the difference Fangio’s scheme will have; especially for Todd Davis and Josey Jewell. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Denver Broncos star cornerback Chris Harris Jr. told The Associated Press on Tuesday night that he wants to be traded if general manager John Elway doesn’t give him a contract extension.Elway insisted earlier Tuesday in his pre-draft news conference that he’s not angry with Harris for skipping Denver’s offseason program, unlike five years ago, when he ripped receiver Demaryius Thomas for doing the same thing during a contract stalemate.Elway reiterated that he’ll address Harris’ contract demands after this weekend’s NFL draft but quickly added: “I said we’re going to talk about it. It doesn’t mean we’re going to do it.”That didn’t sit well with Harris, who told The Associated Press in a text that he no longer wants to play in Denver if Elway doesn’t want to give him an extension.“Yep, been disrespected too many times. In the media,” Harris said via text. It’s the first time Harris has publicly discussed a desire to leave Denver should things not work out.is due $7.8 million in 2019, the final season of a team-friendly Courtland Sutton Jersey , five-year, $42.5 million contract he signed in 2015.Elway signed two defensive backs in free agency, Bryce Callahan (three years, $21 million) and Kareem Jackson (three years, $33 million).Asked why he was waiting until after the draft to address Harris’ contract situation, Elway said, “I don’t have time right now. I’m busy with the draft.” And asked whether he foresees any scenario in which he’d trade Harris, Elway said, “I haven’t even thought about that, so no.”The last remaining member of the “No Fly Zone” secondary that was the backbone of Denver’s Super Bowl 50 triumph, Harris is the only defensive back in the NFL with multiple interceptions in each of the last seven seasons.
The Washington Redskins have signed first-round pick Dwayne Haskins and seven others from their draft class. The team on Thursday announced rookie deals with the Ohio State quarterback they took 15th overall https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , fourth-round running back Bryce Love and guard Wes Martin, fifth-round center Ross Pierschbacher and linebacker Cole Holcomb, sixth-round receiver Kelvin Harmon and seventh-round cornerback Jimmy Moreland and linebacker Jordan Brailford.Edge rusher Montez Sweat, Washington's other first-round pick at No. 26, and third-round receiver Terry McLaurin are the only unsigned picks going into rookie camp. McLaurin played with Haskins at Ohio State.Haskins is one of two healthy QBs on the roster for offseason workouts, along with trade acquisition Case Keenum. Alex Smith is expected to miss the upcoming season after breaking his right leg, and Colt McCoy is still recovering from surgery for a broken leg. With the Senior Bowl wrapped up, I thought I would do my first Redskins Mock Draft of the year using only Senior Bowl prospects. Now obviously it’s unlikely a team would only draft Senior Bowl players, but this is a fun exercise looking at some potential options for the Redskins. I used On the Clock without trades for this scenario. You can see my full Senior Bowl coverage here, including an interview of one of the players below. Feel free to follow along with the full mock draft, but remember I was only focusing on Senior Bowl players in this scenario. 15: R1P15 EDGE MONTEZ SWEAT, MISSISSIPPI STATE-This was a decision between taking Drew Lock and Montez Sweat with this selection. While it’s tempting to go with the potential franchise QB, I decided to go with Sweat here. Sweat had a fantastic week of practice and showed off his impressive length and quickness off the snap. Sweat has put up 22 sacks over the past two years playing in the SEC and has the ability to be a 10+ sack a year player to replace Preston Smith. 46: R2P14 C DALTON RISNER, KANSAS STATE-Risner is listed as a center here, but I view him as an option to play guard to fill the LG vacancy. Risner played most of the week at right tackle, but he’s played center and guard in his career and is one of the most versatile linemen in the class. Risner has good feet and plays with a mean streak. His versatility is a huge plus as he can fill in at other positions if need be (though ideally as a rookie he learns one role). Risner is a good value pick in the middle of round 2, and would be the final missing link for the Redskins OL. The Redskins will likely need to rely on their offensive line next year as try to feature Derrius Guice heavily in the offense. 76: R3P12 WR ANDY ISABELLA, UMASS-Though he typically get’s pigeon-holed as a slot receiver only in the ilk of a Wes Welker, Isabella’s skill set is beyond that. He may primarily be used in the slot, but he’s got the ability to play outside some. Also from the slot, he’s likely to see more downfield passing as he was a serious deep threat in college. Isabella can absolutely fly and is probably one of the favorites for the fastest 40 time at the Combine. Isabella expects to run in the 4.3’s and even could crack the 4.2’s. If you want to add speed and play-making ability to the Redskins roster Isabella is a great option to do so. 96: R3P32 QB JARRETT STIDHAM, AUBURN-While I think there is a fair argument of either taking a 1st RD QB or passing on the position all-together, I think Stidham here is a solid choice. He had a really good week of practice at the Senior Bowl and flashed some starting upside. He’s got pretty good arm talent and while he’s coming off a disappointing year in the right system he could develop. With only Colt McCoy and Josh Johnson as the “healthy” QB options right now, adding a mid-round QB for depth makes sense. Even if Stidham never develops as a franchise QB, he can offer value as a cheap back-up going forward. Also, by taking Stidham it wouldn’t prevent the Redskins from addressing the position early in the draft in 2020 or 2021 depending on the future of Alex Smith. 154: R5P15 WR TERRY MCLAURIN, OHIO STATE-McLaurin might have helped himself enough this week that he goes higher than this, but with a deep receiver draft he could easily fall to this range. McLaurin has been Ohio State’s big play receiver the past two years Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , averaging 17.8 yards per catch and 17 combined TDs. That’s despite being 3rd or 4th on the team in targets. McLaurin had a really strong week showcasing his speed and route running. He showed he’s more than just a deep threat this week and that he can threaten a defense in a number of ways. Adding him on top of Isabella gives the Redskins a pair of big play receivers with serious speed. Add them to the mix with Josh Doctson, Paul Richardson and Trey Quinn and the Redskins will have a receiver core with a lot of speed and big play ability. 172: R5P33 TE DREW SAMPLE, WASHINGTON-The Redskins are likely to cut Vernon Davis this offseason as his contractis ballooning and his role on the team seems to be decreasing. With Jordan Reed potentially following him out the door the following year or two, adding more young TE talent makes sense. Sample is a good two-way TE. He’s a really good blocker and he can help as a receiver as well. He runs well for his size and showed pretty good hands this week. He will never be a Jordan Reed type of TE, but he can be an effective number 2 TE. 207: R6P32 G BEN POWERS, OKLAHOMA-Currently the Redskins have Trent Williams, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Chase Roullier, Geron Christian and Tyler Catalina as the only offensive linemen under contract with any NFL experience. So in addition to finding a starting LG, getting a back-up or two will be key. Powers is a great late round target as he was a first team All-American at Oklahoma this past year and has been a 3 year starter at guard. He’s a tough, physical blocker who has experience at both guard spots, and even played some Tackle back in his freshman year at a JUCO college. Despite being a late round guy, he’s actually got some future starting potential. 229: R7P13 S MARQUISE BLAIR, UTAH-Blair has been a solid safety for Utah the past two seasons after transferring in from Community College. He is a bigger safety and probably profiles as an in the box option at the next level. he should be a solid back-up/core special teamer which is all you can ask for late in the draft. Overview:Obviously I was limited in who I could select based on limiting myself to the 110 Senior Bowlprospects, but overall this is a solid draft. Sweat, Risner, and Isabella should all be day one starters (Isabella primarily from the Slot, but will play outside as well), with McLaurin, Sample and Powers all as key back-ups. Stidham has some long term potential and at worst he’s a solid cheap back-up. Sweat has the chance to be an elite pass rusher and Risner could be a very good starter as well. While Isabella is tougher to predict, if it comes together his game breaking ability gives him the upside of a T.Y. Hilton/Tyreek Hill type of offensive weapon. If he doesn’t hit that peak, he should still be a very productive slot receiver with some deep threat ability added in. McLaurin is another receiver I wouldn’t discount, I really enjoyed watching him at the Senior Bowl and see a future bigger role for him than what he had at Ohio State. What do you think? Do you like this scenario, or would you have gone with Drew Lock in the first round?
Mr. Big Chest is threatening to take his helmet and go home.Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Raiders receiver Antonio Brown has informed team officials that JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , unless he gets to wear his old helmet, he will not play football again.Schefter also reports that Brown believes that the new helmet he is supposed to wear “protrudes out and interferes with his vision as he tries to catch [the] football.” Brown has refused to wear other approved helmets offered to him by the Raiders. As PFT has reported, the model of Brown’s specific helmet is among those that can be worn. Apparently, however, that model has sufficiently changed in the past decade to make Brown not interested in wearing it.It’s unclear whether Brown means what he says. But, again, he’s used to getting his way — and he’ll apparently keep trying to get the NFL to bend to his wishes. At a time when the NFL seems to be willing to do whatever it has to do to ensure that highly-talented football players are available to play football https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-juju-smith-schuster-jersey , maybe the NFL will find a way to let Brown do what he wants, if he truly is serious about not playing football. In the interim, it would probably be smart to keep an eye on Brown’s social-media feeds for a late-night, shirtless press conference from an elliptical machine. If not for the sizable contract extension he had signed back in August T. J. Watt Jersey , there is a good chance the Steelers would have parted ways with him mid-season, but instead opted to place him on injured reserve when a groin injury revealed itself. Heading into the second year of his new five-year deal, many had assumed that the structure of his contract would still make releasing him challenging, especially in light of a roster bonus that was due to him just days after the new league year began in March. However, it would appear that the front office took steps to fix that obstacle earlier in the offseason when they significantly altered the date of when that bonus was due. As per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and other sources on Tuesday, the payment of the $2 million roster bonus that Boswell was due has been moved back until after the team’s final preseason game, a move that would save the Steelers a decent amount of money if they decided to part ways with the fourth-year kicker ahead of the regular season.Prior to this move Jerome Bettis Jersey White , cutting Boswell this offseason would have saved Pittsburgh just $1 million in cap space and left them with $6.8 million in dead money to account spread over two seasons, now those figures will change to $3 million in savings and $4.8 million in dead money. For a young player clearly struggling with confidence. this move cannot have helped him prepare for a bounce back season, the specter of his looming release now hanging over him. commitment is understandable, the business of football is not always a palatable one. Forced to acquiesce to the request or be released back in March, the front office left Boswell with few options this offseason. Whether he can regain his form in an environment that appears to have minimal faith in his ability to rebound remains to be seen, and some might argue that Boswell may well be better served playing elsewhere in 2019 with a clean slate.

Pro Football Focus had theirs today and from what I can see, the Raiders would come out with a pretty nice looking group of players should the draft fall the way Steve Palaszolo is predicting.First up, he is sticking with the top three of Kyler Murray to Arizona, Nick Bosa to San Francisco, and Josh Allen to the Jets. OAKLAND RAIDERS: DI QUINNEN WILLIAMS, ALABAMANotes: So Derek Carr Jersey White , by some analysts’ estimates, the Raiders would be getting the best player in this draft at fourth overall. Even though it is not a position of need, it’s hard to argue getting the best player available.24. OAKLAND RAIDERS: WR MARQUISE BROWN, OKLAHOMANotes: Marquise Brown is arguably the best receiver in this draft (though they have him as the third WR taken behind AJ Brown and DK Metcalf). He also happens to be perfect for what the Raiders need being that he can play the slot for now and potentially move outside as a deep threat in future.27. OAKLAND RAIDERS: EDGE CLELIN FERRELL, CLEMSONNotes: Are you kidding me? Getting Ferrell at this point looks like a steal. Almost seems entirely unrealistic, but I guess you just never really know. He was called the Godfather as the voice of the Raiders for over two decades. That run came to an end prior to last season as Papa was unceremoniously removed and replaced by the lackluster voice of former longtime color commentator Brent Musburger.Raiders radio broadcasts last season went from knowledgable and energetic to drab and lethargic. Fans who were known to turn the sound off on the TV and turn on the local broadcast now more often just go with the national broadcasters.Adding salt to the wounds, this offseason Papa immediately began calling pre- and postgame for 49ers games last season. And as soon as the season was over, it was announced he would become the 49ers play-by-play voice. Which is just weird. While Papa was calling games for the Raiders, he also hosted an incredibly popular show on 95.7 The Game with Bonta Hill. That show continued after Papa was replaced for games. Until now.Papa is completing his clean break from the Raiders and his former gig by leaving 95.7 The Game altogether and joining the 49ers flagship station Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , KNBR 680, The Athletic is reporting. With the Raiders leaving for Las Vegas following the 2019 season, 95.7 cut back considerably on their Silver & Black talk. The team calls 740 AM “The Home of the Raiders” while select games will be heard in the Bay Area on 95.7 as well as 106.9 KFRC-FM.d of an era that began in 1997. He landed on his feet with the 49ers scooping him up. Leaving 95.7 leaves no remnants of him associated with the Raiders which is pretty sad. Raiders fans can be angry at him for making the most of his situation or wish him well. I’d suggest the latter.Regardless of who you feel like blaming for this, the play-by-play work of the 80-year-old Brent Musburger won’t help you feel better about it. Hopefully the team will find a more suitable replacement soon.Follow @LeviDamien
“Pay me or trade me.”According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com Womens John Elway Jersey , Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris has asked for a trade if they won’t give him a new contract.Harris is due to make $7.8 million in base salary in 2019, which serves as the final year of the five-year contract extension he signed in December 2014. Harris’ 2019 salary ranks outside the top 25 contracts for the season at the cornerback position despite being a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a first-team All-Pro in 2016. Meanwhile, the Broncos are paying Kareem Jackson an average of $11 million a season on the three-year deal he signed this offseason. Jackson has never made a Pro Bowl or award team during his nine years with the Houston Texans.Broncos G.M. John Elway has said he has no intention of addressing the subject with Harris prior to the conclusion of the draft. At that point, he said Monday that “we’re going to talk about it. It doesn’t mean we’re going to do it.”Elway then said he hasn’t even thought about the idea of trading Harris. However, the trade request may bring that scenario more toward the front of Elway’s mind.Harris has not been taking part in any of the Broncos voluntary workouts as he has made his desire for a new deal clear. If that deal isn’t going to come from Denver, he wants the chance to get it elsewhere. In eight years at the man in charge of the football operations in Denver, Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway has hired four coaches and rolled the dice on at least that many quarterbacks. Elway hired his latest head coach last week, and Elway will now continue the search for his next quarterback.“[W]e’ve got to — Case [Keenum] is probably a short-term fix — find the long-term guy for us,” Elway tells Peter King of . “When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”However they do it, Elway knows that winning consistently hinges on the position he played.“It’s very difficult to do it year in and year out unless you find a franchise quarterback,” Elway said. “And, you know Bradley Chubb Broncos Jersey , we drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round [in 2016] and [head coach] Gary [Kubiak] was on board with Paxton and I thought he was a good fit with what Gary did. And then Gary gets sick and can’t do it anymore. Now all of a sudden we change a whole system that we had drafted a quarterback for. And once that [public] tidal wave started against him, he is getting bashed, and it’s hard for a 23-, 24-year-old kid to beat that.”Then there’s the fact that Lynch, once dumped by Denver, hasn’t been able to find another NFL home — even at a time when the rosters have enlarged to 90.It’s not just Lynch. Elway used a second-round pick on former starter Brock Osweiler. Former starter , beating out Lynch in two straight open competitions before being traded to Minnesota. That move came not long after Elway committed $36 million over two years to Case Keenum, whose single year in Minnesota ended up being much better than his first tour in Denver.Elway also had a chance to acquire Colin Kaepernick in 2016, but Elway wanted the former 49ers starter to drop his guaranteed pay for that season. Kaepernick declined, and then when he became a free agent the following year Elway wasn’t interested, for obvious reasons (even though Elway tried to claim it was because Kaepernick had his chance to join the team the prior offseason and passed). The only thing we know at this point is that Kaepernick won’t be the long-term answer in Denver. Beyond that, it’s an open book and a blank page. We’ll see what Elway manages to write on it this time around, especially with no Peyton Manning or other sure-fire future Hall of Famer ready to fall into Elway’s lap.
If you were watching NFL games last weekend – and for much of the season – and didn’t notice Zach Ertz and Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis and Rob Gronkowski https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , well, you probably weren’t watching very carefully. Tight end, not too long ago almost an afterthought for many teams, has become a critical spoke in the offensive wheel. Indeed, for many quarterbacks, the tight end has become something of a security blanket. Certainly Gronk for Tom Brady and Delanie Walker for Marcus Mariota. It’s also been that way for years with Antonio Gates catching passes from Philip Rivers, or Greg Olsen for Cam Newton. From revitalized veterans such as Walker and Davis to impact rookies Evan Engram, David Njoku and Jonnu Smith, tight end has become a focal point in the league. ”It’s just transcendent to the point to where now the position has catapulted to a point where it’s just unbelievable,” says Gates, 37, who in his 15th pro season could be headed toward holding every significant receiving record for the position. And yes, that should spell Hall of Fame someday. ”So many guys that’s making so many plays. Such a threat, where the majority of the time when you go into a game plan you’re not thinking of doubling tight ends. Now you see, obviously Gronkowski is one name. The (Travis) Kelces of the world. Jason Witten is still playing well. Those are the guys that’s obviously, in situational football – third down – you’re trying to take them out of the game. ”It didn’t used to be like that. So, now when I watch games, it’s like a big brother situation. I’m like `Wow, the position has grown so much.’ And hopefully these guys can continue to keep that legacy going.” Actually, the legacy isn’t all that profound. There are only eight in Canton, the last being Shannon Sharpe in 2003. Tony Gonzalez certainly will join the club when eligible in 2019. For decades, the tight end was considered a glorified tackle. Even when John Mackey and Mike Ditka were stars in the 1960s and early `70s Montez Sweat Jersey , it was not a key part of the passing game. That changed quite a bit, more as an evolution though, since 1980.With the onset of uptempo attacks with spread principles, though, tight ends coming out of college often have been more pass catcher than pass protector. That is reflected in the way Gates and Witten and Davis and Olsen – all of whom have played at least 11 pro seasons – have built stellar careers. It’s also reflected in the numbers posted by Kelce or Ertz or Gronk. And even the newcomers: Engram is the most reliable target for Eli Manning on the injury-ravaged Giants. ”Zach is an elite receiver at that position,” says Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who could easily be talking about Kelce or Gronkowski or Walker. ”I haven’t been around too many guys that run routes like him. But there’s really kind of an emphasis on being the complete player because there’s not a whole lot of tight ends that can run routes the way he runs and be productive blocking at the line of scrimmage. Zach’s really done a good job and has really improved. He’s been physical, and a lot of that is just a mindset.” Many team’s mindset includes having more than one tight end on the field. That paid a different kind of benefit last year for New England when Gronkowski was lost to a back injury, but Brady had Martellus Bennett on hand. Playing a pair of tight ends at the same time can make for nightmare matchups for defenses. There’s no better example than Reed and Davis in Washington. ”Gruden is all about the tight ends,” Davis says of Redskins coach Jay Gruden. ”He loves to get the ball to Jordan Reed and he just has a track record for building an offense that’s friendly to the tight end’s position.” In Baltimore, where pretty much every wideout has been banged-up or lost to Joe Flacco, three of the top five receivers through seven weeks have been tight ends. Tennessee’s Walker ranks third among tight ends in 2017 with 32 receptions through Week 7. From 2015 through now, he ranks second among tight ends in receiving yards (2,212; behind Kelce’s 2,423) and third in receptions (191; behind Kelce’s 194 and Ertz’s 192). As versatile as any TE, Walker offers a comfort zone for the developing Mariota. The Jets like to use more than one tight end at a time, though only Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a receiving threat. Seferian-Jenkins is second on the team with 26 receptions, one behind wideout Jermaine Kearse, despite being suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy last year.Seferian-Jenkins’ 26 catches match the total Jets tight ends had all of the past two seasons combined. ”When you have a couple of tight ends in the game, it’s a whole different ballgame,” offensive coordinator John Morton says. ”Just having him (Seferian-Jenkins) out there, a big-bodied guy going down the field Dwayne Haskins Redskins Jersey , that’s a big force, and him blocking. Along with Eric (Tomlinson) and Neal (Sterling), too. When you have those tight ends, you can get into different personnel groupings and try to create a mismatch, if you can, depending on what they’re playing. It’s been a great plus to have him out there, for sure.” Most every NFL coach will echo those sentiments. — AP Pro Football Writers Teresa M. Walker, Rob Maaddi and Josh Dubow, and Sports Writers Greg Beacham, Kyle Hightower and Dennis Waszak Jr., contributed. — LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Adrian Peterson has played against Aaron Rodgers more than a dozen times and knows not to be surprised by anything. So when the prolific quarterback led the Green Bay Packers to a comeback victory in Week 1 and played well on an injured left knee in Week 2, it was par for the course.“You see him hobbling around last week and how effortless he was making plays,” Peterson said. “That’s one thing I learned: When you’ve got Aaron Rodgers on your team, you’ve always got a chance to win a game.”Peterson and Rodgers meet on an NFL field for the 15th time Sunday. While Rodgers is showing he can still produce at less than 100 percent health, Peterson is now 33 and with the Washington Redskins, who have their sights set on containing Green Bay’s offense in the hopes of bouncing back from a bad loss to Indianapolis.“You’ve got to prepare every day like it’s a championship game,” Washington safety D.J. Swearinger said. “You’ve got to give (Rodgers) different looks on defense, you’ve got to confuse him and you’ve got to send pressure at him. That’s the only way you beat the greatest — by moving him off the spot and switching up the looks.”Rodgers’ ability to keep plays alive and ad-lib when options aren’t there are things that make him one of the NFL’s best. Redskins coach Jay Gruden said of Rodgers: “You don’t want anyone to be injured, but that’ll help a little bit because one of the strengths of his game is his ability to create off schedule.”Neither Packers coach Mike McCarthy nor Rodgers will say how injured the 34-year-old is. Rodgers said his knee was still sore even as he continues to play through the pain.“It’s just going to be something you’ve got to deal with for a while,” Rodgers said. “Take it week by week. It doesn’t seem like there’s a major setback at this point, so just being smart about it and trying to get ready to play.”One way to limit Rodgers and the Packers (1-0-1) is holding on to the ball https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , something the Redskins (1-1) struggled with against the Colts when they went 5 of 15 on third down. Part of that is getting Peterson going like he did in Week 1, and this may be the perfect opportunity because his 1,779 yards rushing against Green Bay are the most of any opponent during his career.“I don’t think anything brings out the best,” Peterson said. “Any game I’m a part of, I’m giving 110 percent. Obviously, the Vikings and Packers is a rivalry game, highly anticipated, so I don’t know if other guys play extra hard. I was giving all I had each time I played those guys.”Some things to watch when the Packers visit the Redskins:SMITH GROWS UPRedskins QB Alex Smith is on his third team since the 49ers took him first overall in 2005, the same draft Rodgers slipped to 24. While Rodgers said the two quarterbacks have developed a good friendship, McCarthy was San Francisco’s offensive coordinator during Smith’s rookie season and has been impressed by his ability to handle expectations, moving around and continue to make plays.“I was always amazed just to watch him continue to have success in the National Football League,” McCarthy said. “What he’s dealt with as far as the amount of change just speaks volumes about him as a football player and a person.”THE OTHER AARONThe Packers should have their three-man backfield back this weekend with the expected return of Aaron Jones. The tailback was suspended by the NFL for the first two games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.McCarthy has said Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery remain atop the depth chart, though it can’t hurt for the Packers to have another option on offense especially with Rodgers banged up. Jones, who showed flashes of potential as a rookie last season, can bring a slashing, physical presence to the backfield.BRUISED LINEWashington’s offense line that paved the way for a league-best 182 yards in Week 1 was not at its best last week and could use the upcoming time off after the Green Bay game. Left tackle Trent Williams is still dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right knee, right guard Brandon Scherff injured his right knee against the Colts and left guard Shaun Lauvao could miss some time with a calf injury. With the of shifting center Chase Roullier to left guard and inserting journeyman center ON THE CORNERIt appears that the Packers might be without one of their top cornerbacks against the Redskins in Kevin King. He left the tie with the Vikings with a groin injury. If King can’t play, it will leave more snaps for rookie cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson and veteran Davon House. Alexander, the Packers’ first-round draft pick, is off to a good start in his NFL career in showing the potential to make big plays. His fourth-quarter interception last week against Minnesota was wiped out by a roughing-the-passer call on linebacker Clay Matthews.
A meeting between Steelers owner Art Rooney II and wide receiver Antonio Brown this week ended with the Steelers saying that they’ll try to trade Brown to another team this offseason.General Manager Kevin Colbert gave an update on that during an appearance on NFL Network on Friday. Colbert said that three teams have reached out to the Steelers about the wideout and that he anticipates hearing from more in the days to come.Colbert said that he expects the process to take time. He added that things could pick up over the next week or so as teams get a sense of what wide receivers will be available through their “own free agency evaluations” and watch prospects go through the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.Colbert told local reporters on Wednesday that the team won’t give Brown away in a trade and he emphasized on Friday that a deal has to be good for the Steelers in order for them to pull the trigger. What that means in terms of a return isn’t known and the answer may not come for a little while yet. When Steelers coach Mike Tomlin got an extension Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , G.M. Kevin Colbert didn’t. He confirmed to a group of reporters on Saturday that he doesn’t want one.Via Mark Kaboly of TheAhtletic.com, the 62-year-old Colbert made it clear that, after his current contract expires in April 2020 Womens JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey , he wants to proceed one year at a time.“When I did the last extension it was under the understanding that the end of this one that I would like to do year-to-year,” said Colbert, who is entering his twentieth year as the team’s G.M.That doesn’t mean he’ll be exiting the job any time soon. “I still love what I do and as long as I still love what I do I can see myself continuing to do it Womens T. J. Watt Jersey ,” Colbert added. allowing the Steelers to move on whenever they want and allowing Colbert to exit whenever he chooses. And if Colbert is in play for a job elsewhere, why wouldn’t another team be thinking about making a run at him? To the extent that the Steelers are one of the most talented teams in the league JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , Colbert is the one most responsible for finding those players.

Sports Illustrated put out their list of the top 300 fantasy players. For Raiders fans looking to add players from your team, you may be wise to wait a while for most of them. The only player on the Raiders roster who is considered worthy of a pick in the top two rounds is Antonio Brown. Sports Illustrated lists him at 19. The next player is first round rookie back Josh Jacobs at 55, which would make him at best a second running back, and perhaps a backup on your fantasy roster if you go after both starting running backs early. Some might think Derek Carr would be the next one on the board, but he’s not. It’s Jalen Richard who tied for the team lead in receptions last year. He lands at 104. You don’t see Carr until 135 which, in a 12-team league, would have him drafted in the 11th round. That’s either for a team that made their starting QB an afterthought or were already looking for their backup.Tyrell Williams doesn’t show up until pick 279, which is fringe draftable. So https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , this is what they got for ranked Raiders:19. Antonio Brown55. Josh Jacobs104. Jalen Richard135. Derek Carr279. Tyrell WilliamsMost notable Raiders players not listed among the ranks would be kicker Daniel Carlson, running back Doug Martin, and tight end Darren Waller. Carlson might be worth a pick, but he’s a kicker, so no big deal if you go with someone else. Martin is expected to share carries with Jacobs, so he could be a deep bench option. Waller has a lot to prove to show he’s worthy of being drafted, but he is expected to start, so must be considered late if there are no better starting options. Also see: Using detailed anaysis to project receiving stats for every Raiders playerFollow @LeviDamien Suddenly filled with confidence and bravado after their big home win over the Broncos, the Oakland Raiders have one goal left in what has been a season of discovery; A victory in Arrowhead Stadium over the Kansas City Chiefs. Draft slots placement be damned, these players are having fun and playing with pride and passion. The greatest compliment you can give a coach is his team is playing hard. Rookie offensive tackles Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker have been criticized loudly and rightfully so. On Monday night Derek Carr Jersey White , they completely shut out Von Miller — he didn’t even record a tackle. Bradley Chubb got mauled over in the end zone on a gun run by Parker, a run which Jalen Richard followed right off his hip and into the promised land. The Raiders defense pitched a shutout through the first half and it would continue through Broncos first seven possessions. All without both starting cornerbacks Gareon Conley (concussion) and Daryl Worley (shoulder). After a thrilling victory, Jon Gruden referenced the Chiefs, about how “we [the Raiders] don’t like them and they don’t like us” adding “Let’s go beat Kansas City’s ass.”It’s time for Derek Carr and this Oakland offense to get the monkey off their backs. It’s time for Carr to get his first career victory in Kansas City, Missouri, in what will now be his fifth attempt.Carr has taken his lumps early and often. The wins haven’t been there for the team this year but it isn’t indicative of the type of season he’s had. With a patchwork offensive line, and a revolving door out wideout, Despite the challenges, Carr needs just 136 yards in the game to break the 4,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. He also needs just 15 completions to break Peyton Manning’s record for the most completions (1749) thru the first five years of his career. As a whole the pass defense has been a much improved unit and is ranked 14th with 3543 yards given up. Karl Joseph Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , Erik Harris, and Conley have been the answer for db coach Derrick Ansley and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther. 283 completions on the season and are 12th with 13 interceptions. They have allowed a 300-yard passer only three times all year. Pat Mahomes was just shy of throwing for 300 yards in their first meeting with the Chiefs.Losers of two-straight, the Chiefs now have matching 11-4 record with the Los Angeles Chargers. A win by the Chiefs Sunday and they would maintain home field advantage over the AFC by mere division winning percentage points over the Chargers. A Raider victory against the Chiefs, in combination with a Charger win, would mean the Chiefs lose the division and would be sent on the road into the wildcard round, where the Chiefs have finished one and done in the playoffs for four times in seven trips since 2000. Not to mention breaking that losing streak would be a great foundation to build upon heading into the offseason. You can follow me @PhilRobinsonNFL on twitter

Mike Klis of 9News provided a quick update on Sunday that the two sides had spoken over the weekend and that they were inching closer to a deal for 2019.He went on to note in a later post that there is ‘cautious optimism’ a deal will get done before the team begins their final part of the OTA program on Wednesday and before the teams three-day mandatory minicamp next week.Harris is scheduled to be the third highest paid defensive back on the roster, so a deal to fix that should have been the first thing John Elway did after free agency. Instead, the team looked at its aging future Broncos Ring of Famer as expendable beyond this year, so good on Harris for forcing the team to pay him more for one last ride in the Orange and Blue. The deal currently being worked out is reportedly a one year adjustment to Harris’ pay. It will likely make him the highest paid defensive back on the roster Bradley Chubb Jersey White , but will also leave him with no contract beyond 2019. It’s a bummer for fans that it looks like this will be the last season he’ll be in Denver, but no one will disagree that its been one hell of a ride for all of us. Safety D.J. Swearinger moved to Arizona via a waiver claim on Christmas Day and Washington head coach Jay Gruden expanded on the decision to part ways with the outspoken veteran at his Wednesday press conference.Gruden pointed to “repeated offenses” from Swearinger sharing negative views about the organization to the media as the impetus for a “group decision” to cut Swearinger. Swearinger said that Washington coaches balked at his suggestions for ways to improve the defense and Gruden said it’s fine to have those things in-house Wes Martin Jersey , but made it clear that airing the laundry outside the organization went too far.Gruden also said he deserved some of the blame for not making it clear enough to .“We’ve had discussions before in the past, obviously. Words such as “we” and “us” and “relationships” and “my guys.”No personal agendas. No campaigning for more touches or playing time. No talk about contracts or specific roles. The Pittsburgh Steelers running backs just don’t see the point of personal pronouns.“We’re trying to be the best running back group in the world,” Samuels said. One that’s ready to escape Le’Veon Bell’s shadow for good. The versatile and dynamic three-time Pro Bowler’s long goodbye ended in March when he signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the New York Jets. For Conner and Samuels, that means no more keeping one eye on the playbook and another on the door to the locker room waiting for Bell to step through. He never did last fall, though that didn’t stop the seemingly endless debate over his intentions and his future, discussions the teammates he left behind tried to avoid even as they combined to put up numbers that rivaled Bell’s at the peak of his considerable powers.Conner and Samuels put up 1 T. J. Watt Jersey White ,925 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2018. Bell had 1,946 total yards and 11 touchdowns in 2017. Oh, and Conner and Samuels did it at a tenth of the price and an even smaller fraction of the drama.“We didn’t know what the situation with Le’Veon was going to be last year,” Samuels said. “We just had to come to work every day like he was going to show up. Now that he’s not here, we’re going to do the same thing. Just going to push even harder because we know the pressure is on us. We’ve got to get the job done.”One they’re focused on doing together. While Conner made the Pro Bowl after running for 973 yards and a dozen touchdowns and adding 497 yards receiving, he also missed time at various points because of minor injuries. Samuels — a rookie fifth-round pick last fall — filled in capably Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , including a memorable performance in a victory over the New England Patriots in which he racked up 172 total yards.Conner spent a portion of the winter bulking up in an effort to hold up better under the wear and tear of a 16-game season. His biceps and his shoulders look as if someone inserted a hose into them and just started puffing away, not stopping until his arms and neck appear to be bursting out from under his shoulder pads.“I don’t know what’s going on with him,” Samuels said with a laugh and a shake of his head.Conner is reluctant to discuss specifics about how much weight he’s added. He’s also reticent to declare himself the starter. Entering his third year as a pro, he’s become well-versed in how fast life can come at you in the NFL. He joined the Steelers as a third-round pick in 2017.Sixteen months later he found himself lining up behind quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when Bell opted to work on his music and his tan rather than sign his franchise tag and show up for work.Still, all those yards and all those touchdowns didn’t stop Pittsburgh from taking Snell in the fourth round of the draft following a record-breaking career at Kentucky. Conner didn’t take it personally. This is how things work.“Coach (Mike Tomlin) told us a while ago that he’s trying to replace us every year,” Conner said. “Didn’t mean that in a bad way. Doesn’t mean we’re not doing our job. It’s just you know Womens JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey , there’s always a young buck up and coming. You’ve seen the talent that Jaylen got. Seen the talent that Benny has. All those guys are talented, really good running backs.”Samuels excelled catching passes out of the backfield at North Carolina State — where he left as the school’s all-time leader in receptions — and spent the offseason refining his route running. The Steelers are looking for ways to have Conner and Samuels on the field at the same time, even if that means moving Samuels into more of an H-back role that would allow him the freedom to move around in search offavorable matchups.“We’ve both got unique skillsets,” Samuels said. “James can do a lot of running and I can do a lot of catching but we can also feed off each other. That was just Year One. Year Two we hope to build off that, exceed and make some noise.”They’re not the only ones. Snell left Kentucky with a year of eligibility left after breaking every important rushing record in school history. He didn’t panic when he didn’t hear his name called until the third day of the draft. He knows how well the Steelers develop mid-round picks. The rise of Conner and Samuels offers tangible proof.“Those are my guys, those are my brothers Womens T. J. Watt Jersey ,” Snell said.A bond they will lean on as the post-Le’Veon Bell era begins, one more focused on sharing the burden rather than hogging the ball or the limelight.“It’s bigger than making plays on the field,” Conner said. “Like, football is like a game of life. So the friendships and the relationships we have off the field, it helps us on the field. Everything is not just competition and who can make plays on the field. It’s important to be a good person, have good character.” The Pittsburgh Steelers might not have a game this Sunday JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , but that does not mean everyone in the organization had the weekend off. With a number of notable matchups on the college football schedule on Saturday, the Steelers were one of many teams with scouts on hand to watch the action unfold. If Le’Veon Bell really was at the Michigan State/Ohio State game as had been rumored, he might have bumped into a scout from Pittsburgh.Meanwhile another was as the Alabama/Mississippi State game. game covered. After already having been to the Wake Forest/N.C State game the night before. The list of talent worth seeing at these games is far too long to list here and it would be safe to assume that these four contest do not even represent a fraction of the games around the country the Steelers would have been represented at this weekend. Often an overlooked aspect of the pre draft discussion, especially when noting a team’s pre-draft interest, is the obvious fact that NFL teams will have done extensive scouting on many potential options far in advance of the draft. Dedicated regional scouts will have spent at least a year or more tracking certain prospects and their evaluations will go a long way in shaping a teams opinion about a player.
Fourth round draft pick Foster Moreau is not your typical blocking tight end Derek Carr Jersey White , here’s what sets him apart."Foster Moreau, TE, LSUMeasurables6’4”, 253 lbsStats2018: 22 receptions, 272 yards (12.4 average), 2 touchdowns2017: 24 receptions, 278 yards (11.3 average), 3 touchdowns2016: 6 receptions, 79 yards(13.2 average), 1 touchdownAwards2018: LSU team captainStrengthsThe Raiders got a natural leader with Foster Moreau, someone who is going to give 100% effort 100% of the time. Moreau is known for his blocking, it is what put him on the radar and it is what he perfected at LSU. His strength is paramount and he loves engaging linebackers or defensive ends at the line of scrimmage. A natural finisher, Moreau’s bread and butter is his run-blocking (think Lee Smith here). His athleticism allows him to be a dual-threat tight end in certain scenarios, but in the passing game Moreau is much weaker than in run blocking. WeaknessesNot the most polished route runner, Moreau can definitely benefit from coaching at the professional level. He doesn’t create much separation, and struggles after the catch. Not the best at winning jump balls, Moreau benefits more from designed plays or dump offs. Verdict A blocker first and receiver second.. Moreau’s athleticism is attractive, and many believe he was misused in an LSU offense that didn’t value his skill set. If he can expand his route tree and work on separating from defenders, he could more than justify his selection in the 4th round.Fit with RaidersHe will earn his stripes in the trenches, but under Gruden’s tutelage, Moreau can become an every-down, dual-threat tight end that commands respect in both phases of the offense. With the reputation of a blocker Bo Jackson Jersey , Moreau can be a sneaky option in the passing game. Regardless, Moreau will learn from one of the best blocking tight ends in the business in Lee Smith, and then eventually take over his share of offensive snaps. That’s really rare for a walk-on to earn a scholarship before they play a snap but it was because of what he had done in just one year of practice getting open and the confidence that we had that not only was he going to play, he was going to be a very productive player for us.”The rest was history for Renfrow. In what was one of the most unlikely but storied careers, Renfrow finished his time at Clemson with 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also owns the Clemson record for most starts by a receiver with 47.In 2018 he won the Burlsworth trophy, which is awarded to college football’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. And who can forget the game winner he caught from then quarterback Deshaun Watson in the 2017 CFP national championship against Alabama.During the interview with Coach Scott, I asked what are the attributes that Renfrow possess that will make him successful at the next level.“I think probably his best attribute as a receiver is just he kinda has this sixth sense if you will.He knows how to get open, he knows when to make certain breaks, he understands what the quarterback is looking at, what he’s looking for.to get open.I use to tease him sometimes that he kind of had eyes in the back of his head because he could see things going on behind him closer to the quarterback while he’s running his routes.”As mini camp wrapped up and the Raiders practiced for the final time as a team before the start of training camp it was Renfrow who was running with the ones along side Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams. The offense has lacked a dynamic player like Renfrow in the slot for sometime now.His skill set and ability combined with Brown and Williams could take this offense to a new heights. Marquette King has not lived up to the lofty expectations the Denver Broncos had of the athletic punter working at altitude Joe Flacco Jersey , so now he’s got some competition. The Broncos signed rookie punter Colby Wadman from UC Davis to their practice squad in hopes of snapping King out of his funk.“Well, we’ve had him here in the mandatory minicamp, he’s been with Tom (McMahon, the Broncos’ special teams coordinator), and we have to get better there,” coach Vance Joseph said Wednesday. “So, we’re looking forward to Marquette having a good week of punting.“It’s a performance-based business, so we’re trying to get better there.”King averaged just a 39.3-yard net on seven punts in Denver’s 27-14 loss at Baltimore, where he failed three times to flip the field with booming punts that were his hallmark before his release from the Oakland Raiders in the offseason.King hasn’t had the hang time the Broncos expected of him, something that will be imperative to improve on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.“You want to hang the ball with Tyreek Hill,” Joseph said. “That’s going to be the key with this guy. He’s a dangerous returner. He doesn’t fair-catch the football. But I think hanging the ball high is going to be one of the keys to containing him. But again, it’s going to take our entire coverage team and we have to do a good job of keeping him from hurting us with punt returns.”King signed a three-year, $7 million deal with the Broncos after Raiders coach Jon Gruden cut him in March. Afterward, the Broncos traded Riley Dixon Bradley Chubb Jersey White , who averaged 45.7 yards in his two seasons in Denver with a net of 40.8 yards, to the New York Giants.King ranks 22nd in the league with a 44.6-yard average and is 14th with a 41.6-yard net.“He has to simply punt better,” Joseph said earlier in the week. “No different than our corners have to play better in coverage, and we’ve got to block better. He’s a football player and he’s got to do his job. He’s got to punt better.”___ Rinse. Lather. Repeat. The Denver Broncos continue to find a way to give their fans false hope and make it closer than it should but be, yet still lose. And don’t give me any crap about the toughness the Broncos showed in a 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. They got owned on both lines of scrimmage by a better team. All that matters is Denver (2-4) is now on a four-game losing streak and all of Broncos Country is asking: How bad will it get? Meanwhile, the Rams (6-0) are a damn good football team.Winners Broncos organization Sunday was the “Fight Like a Bronco” game, where the franchise does its Salute to Survivors. At halftime, the Broncos honored more than 100 women, men and children who survived more than 30 different types of cancer. This is the third year of “Fight Like a Bronco” that was started for assistant turf manager Luke Kellerman, who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. In September 2015, Kellerman began formulating a proposal for an expansion of the NFL’s “A Crucial Catch” campaign. From the team’s release: The more than 100 cancer survivors The women, men and children who won their battle with this heinous disease deserved all the recognition they got on Sunday from the Broncos. They are the real heroes.Bradley Chubb Denver’s rookie had a helluva game. Chubb finished with three of the defense’s five sacks, and, in the process Womens Bradley Chubb Jersey , tied the Broncos’ rookie record for sacks in a game. If not for Chubb and the Orange Rush, the game would have been way worse.Emmanuel Sanders Yes, he had that dumb taunting penalty that cost his team 15 yards and four points, but he was still one of the lone guys to show up on offense for Denver. Sanders finished with seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. And there are other areas the Broncos lost this game, it wasn’t just Sanders’ penalty. But credit for him owning up to it after the game. “It cost my team. I look at the scoreboard and we lost by 3 points,” Sanders told the media after the game. “I feel like we could have easily punched that ball in and got four (more) points. I guess this loss is on me.”Courtland Sutton Speaking of offensive players, the Broncos rookie continues to shine. Sutton only had three catches for 58 yards, with most of it coming on a 41-yard catch, but the young man is special. It also shows Denver needs to throw it deep to Sutton three to five times a game, given he always seems to come down with the ball or draw pass interference penalties. Brandon McManus The Broncos kicker made both of his field goals and both extra points. McManus has yet to miss a field goal or extra point through six games. He entered Sunday’s game as one of four kickers to do so this season. Todd Gurley The Rams running back looked and played like Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl. Gurley is so good. He finished with 208 yards on 28 carries for two touchdowns and a whopping 7.4 yards per carry. Losers Vance Joseph Once again the Broncos head coach was outmatched and outcoached. Situational football remains the scarlett letter for this team, as evidenced by his decision to go for it on fourth-and-three from the Rams’ 39-yard line. It would have been a 56-yard field goal for McManus, but that is in his range. And if you’re going to go for it in that situation, why not give your team the chance to get points? Those three points would have been a huge deal, given the final score was 23-20. If he’s not the worst situational coach in the NFL Womens Dre'Mont Jones Jersey , he’s at the top of the list. As for all of the changes Joseph talked about this week, the defense was embarrassed by a running back for the second-straight week. One of the changes involved Joseph taking over some of the defensive calls. That worked swimmingly. Also, how did that Max Garcia move work out?As the MHR Twitter account pointed out, the Broncos had their longest losing streak in 50 years. In 2018, they’ll probably have their first back-to-back losing season in 45 years. Why is he still the head coach of this football team? Joe Woods The Broncos defensive coordinator should not have a job come Monday.Denver’s run defense There is nothing left to say. At least this week the Broncos let one of the best in the NFL get his career-best game and over 200 yards rushing. The Rams finished with 270 yards rushing. In the last two weeks, Denver has allowed 593 yards ... on the ground alone. The Broncos run defense is putrid — and that’s an insult to putrid.Case Keenum Denver’s defense did all it could to keep this game close by keeping the Rams out of the end zone, and Keenum and the offense spoiled it. The Broncos made it closer than it should have been, and Keenum did throw two touchdowns, but he also threw his eighth interception. He threw seven all of last season.Garett Bolles AKA, Garett Holds. He only got flagged for one holding penalty against LA, but that’s still one too many. And Bolles still leads the NFL in holding penalties. Bradley Roby Whenever there’s a big pass play allowed by the Broncos defense, it’s guaranteed to come with Roby in “coverage.”
